What’s the max Internet or WiFi speed my computer or phone can achieve?

The Internet speed you experience is tied to the max speed your connected device can deliver. Things like the network card, mobile device model, WiFi standards and hardware can limit the maximum data that is transferred, i.e.: your Internet speed you experience.

Here are a few tips to see what speed your connected device can handle to see if it can deliver the speed you subscribed to:

  • Your computer’s network interface card name will usually include a reference such as 10, 100, 1000 that refers to the max megabits per second.

  • The name of your device in your computer’s Networks Connections area within the Control Panel will often indicate the speed it can achieve.

  • Since your phone and tablet will connect to your Internet via WiFi, check the WiFi standard and max speed by searching for the device’s specifications online or in the user manual.
