Tips for WiFi quality signal

WOW!’s WiFi routers’ square footage coverage reach varies by model, but the practical reach depends on the router’s location vs your connected device, its frequency band, the type of walls your home has and other obstructions.

Centralized Location:

  • Install a TrueMesh WiFi device with several devices that prevent drop-offs and dead zones by customizing to your home’s layout.

  • Position your WiFi device in the center of your home for even signal distribution.

WiFi Frequencies:

  • The 2.4 GHz frequency provides more WiFi coverage, in exchange for slightly lower speeds during heavy internet usage.

  • The 5 GHz frequency provides faster speeds during heavy usage, with a smaller WiFi coverage range.

Physical Obstacles:

  • A WiFi signal will typically go through two to three walls before you experience loss of signal unless they are thick or concrete walls.

  • If you have a large home or a home with thick or dense walls, place the WiFi router in a high, central location and avoid crowded spots like bookshelves or behind furniture.

  • If you want network access outdoors, we recommend you place the wireless router near a window.

  • You should also try to keep the wireless router away from any large metal objects as these may hinder its range.
