Properly named for John Hunt, a pioneer, Huntsville became the cotton hub of the Tennessee Valley through the mid 1800s. As a result of this booming business, Huntsville has a wealth of distinguished homes, a number of them in the Twickenham Historic District and the Old Town District where walking tours can be taken. Probably most famous for the US Space and Rocket Center and the famous children's US Space Camp, Huntsville has had a vast role to space exploration. Sci-Quest, the Harmony Park Animal Reserve, and the Early Works Children's Museum, thought to be the south's largest hands-on history museum, are all must see attractions while in Huntsville.
