FALL 2003

New format again, in hopes those of you with e-mail can open it. This is just a quick update on things in the works.  

I'd like to thank all everyone that came to help take out the buoys on that miserable Saturday.  Sure didn't take long to get things done. We are going to try to do the buoys at 8am instead of 7am next year. Here are the things discussed at the meeting that followed..

• The Township will be placing new address numbers this summer. These will be readable from both sides and glow in the dark. This will make our places easier to find in the event of a 911 emergency. There will be a one time $25-30 assessment on this year's tax bill. Also, Delavan will be covering our EMS services when our contract with Darien expires. The advantages to the change are closer proximity and 24 hour service.
 
• October 14th at 7pm will the Township Meeting where we can request assistance with Milfoil control. We are planning to ask the Town Board to carry over the money we requested for this year, and did not use.

It was agreed that we will need to spray next year. Dick and Elaine will get the ball rolling with the DNR now. Areas in need of spraying will be documented by the DNR.  Those of you with Milfoil around your lakefront will be asked to sign a formal permission slip for the DNR. You will be contacted well before the spraying.

October 11th is the next WCLA meeting. It is at 9 AM and will be held at the Lake Geneva Townhall. If you need directions you can contact Rob at rek@sis.rpslmc.edu or call 847-895-1149.

1. Our Lake came up clean for Zebra Mussels. Loosestrife appears to be less this year. Like the Milfoil, get rid of it if you see it.

2. We are getting information regarding the oiling of goose eggs this spring. More information will be available at the November meeting.

3. Carol is requesting 6 new buoys for us. Some of the buoys are in pretty tough shape and we need to have a few extras to put out.

4. We are checking into the cost of a gauge to track our lake level. Jim Jackley from the DNR assured us they are not that expensive and it is the one piece of hard data about our lake that we are missing.

5. The next meeting will be Nov. 15th, 10am at the Baas home. (NOTE: MEETING CANCELLED)

From the Kids Corner.

Last weekend at Turtle Lake we saw signs of Fall. We noticed the Lake was getting really dry. The piers are being taken out. The cattails are going to seed. We saw the Great Blue Heron tracks in the water and on shore. We think he’s hunting for fish. We also saw raccoon tracks under the pier.
