It is with great sadness that I have to inform you of the passing of Jim Napper’s son Jason. Jason had been valiantly fighting cancer for over a year. Jason was a fighter and had made great progress in fighting his cancer twice but the third time he was not successful. Jason passed on April 12th at 10:20 pm with his brother by his side. For those of you who did not know Jason, he was an avid motorcyclist, had a terrific zest for life and was an outstanding young man. My thanks to those of you who were able to attend Jason’s memorial service at St Hugo of the Hills. Please join me in extending condolences to Jason’s wife Ariana, Jim, Jewell, the rest of the Napper Family and friends. At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, a donation was made by the Club to the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life.

I know many of you may know already, but it is with great sadness I have to tell you of the passing of Mike Foos’ Father. David Foos passed away after a long struggle with cancer on December 10th, 2007. Mike’s Dad was a World War II Navy Veteran and was retired from General Motors. Any time they went to Ohio, Mike and Sandy made sure they went to visit "the greatest father-in-law" in the world (Sandy’s words). Mike’s Father donated his body to science in a hope it may help future cancer patients. My condolences to Mike, Sandy and the rest of the Foos Family.

The Board ordered and has received Memorial Patches for Dick Voorhees. The cost of the patches are $3.00 each and I will have them at breakfast and at the next General Membership Meeting.

January

It is with great sadness I have to tell you of the passing of Dick Voorhees. Dick fought valiantly but, sadly, it was not to be. Dick passed away on December 28th. There will be a Memorial Service for Dick on January 12th, 2008. Location, time and a map are included in this newsletter. Dick will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

As requested by the family, a memorial gift to the church [in lieu of flowers, ed.] will be given by the Club. If you are able, please do the same.

At the January Board Meeting, it was decided that, in [tribute] of Dick, his position on the Board will not be filled for the year 2008.

I do have a request. For those of you who can attend Dick’s Memorial Service, please wear your Club jackets or shirts. I would love to see a ‘sea’ of black and gold.

As you know, Frank Harris had surgery recently and is home recovering. He is doing well, looking good and itching to get back to work.

The Christmas presents were delivered to our ‘adopted’ family by Frank and Diana Harris, Dave and Julie Rollins and myself. It was a family of Mom, daughter and son. Our gifts brought Mom to tears. Many thanks to Julie for being the "Club Shopper" [and gift wrapper, ed.].

Julie was able to purchase a large majority of the ‘list’ provided to us. Thanks to all of you who purchased items on your own or made monetary donations. Thanks to Frank and Diana for getting us involved with this family.

I hope you had a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Hope to see you all in the New Year.

Planning is underway for the 2008 Riding Season. If you have any ideas, please let the Board know.

December

For those of you who could not attend our Christmas Party, pictures are available to review. Good food and lots of laughs.

It should not come as any surprise to you that the "Agitator of the Year for 2007" was presented to Barb Rose. Barb joins Wayne in being a 3-time winner of the award! When you see Barb, please congratulate her on a job well done!

I would also like to thank you for selecting me as "Member of the Year". It was a surprise and I do appreciate your kindness.

Julie is close to completing the shopping for our "adopted family". If you have any additional purchases or contributions, please call Wendi or Julie as soon as possible.

Christmas is my personal favorite time of the year. This year it is even more special for me as it will be my grandson’s first Christmas. I will get to spend some time with my kids and it reminds me of when they were young. At the same time, it reminds me of loved ones who have passed away and how much I miss them. I also think of my own life and how fortunate I am to have the things I have. I don’t know if it is just me, but family and friends seem to be more important now than before. Material possessions do not seem to be as important. Being healthy and living healthy is more important now than before.

We have several members who are facing some serious health issues. Dick is currently undergoing treatment, Frank has had his surgery and is in the recovery process, and Denzil is home from the hospital and also in the recovery process.

Please join me in wishing them all a speedy recovery and placing these members in your thoughts and prayers.

If I don’t see you before then, may you all have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

November

Hope you all survived Halloween and didn’t have too much candy left over. What happened to all of the kids?

Some people have already started shopping for our "adopted" family. Please, please, please give Wendi Biroth a call (586-703-0524) to see what still is available to purchase. Let’s do our part to provide this family with a nice Christmas. If you would prefer to give a cash donation, Julie has volunteered to do the shopping for you. The Club will also be making a monetary donation, the amount to be determined at our next General Membership Meeting.

The Board decided we will NOT have a General Membership Meeting in December. We will make other arrangements to get the gifts and food to the family.

The Board is looking for ideas for the colder months. We all enjoyed going to the movies last year to see "Wild Hogs". Got any ideas for us? Special restaurant? Special event? Day Trip? Open your house for dinner? Give us a call.

Our Christmas party is December the 8th at The Cutting Board in Warren. We will be making our menu selections at the next General Membership Meeting. Tickets are available for $25.00 per person. Please contact Dave Rollins. The ticket price covers your meal, dessert, coffee, tea, or soda. Cash bar is available for anything else you may want. Hope to see you there.

Comments and suggestions are always welcome!

October

Well, we have reached October. Currently we don’t have any pre-planned rides scheduled for the rest of October. If you have any ideas, please let a Board Member know.

We will be adopting a family for Christmas. Frank Harris is working on this and he hopes to have the detailed information available soon. We hope to be able to provide both food and Christmas gifts to the family.

The Christmas party has been scheduled and confirmed for December 8th at the Cutting Board Restaurant (Schoenherr between 12 Mile & Martin. Festivities will begin at 6:00 pm with dinner at 7:00 pm. We have yet to determine the menu. It will be decided at the November General Membership meeting. If you cannot attend, please let a Board Member know what your choice is. The cost will be $25.00 per ticket which will include dinner, desert and non-alcoholic beverage. Tickets will be available at the October 18th General Membership meeting.

Ron Rose and I went to the Rally in Battle Alley in Holly on the 7th. As usual, Ron made sure we had a great ride. Nice little rally. All different kinds of bikes. Big presence by "Hogs in Ministry". Nice little town. We need to schedule a ride there. We also ran in to Fran Hardin and Donnie and Patty Hightower [former club members (Ed.)] while we were there. Fran sold his business but he is still working on bikes out of his garage. If you need something done on your Wing, give him a call @ 313-728-9517. His address is 6025 Linville, Westland, MI 48185. Unfortunately, I will be taking my Wing to him. I punched a hole in my rear tire on the way home Sunday. Thankfully Ron picked me and my bike up with his trailer

Hope to see you at the Membership Meeting or Breakfast.

Comments and suggestions are always welcome!

September

September came too fast. Where did the summer go?

Make sure you check your e-mail. Dave has been busy posting more pictures. Check them out.

Final arrangements have been made (I hope) for our Christmas Party. It will be on December 8th from 6:00 pm till ??????? The location this year is The Cutting Board in Warren, on the west side of Schoenherr between Martin and 12 Mile Road.

We will decide on the menu at the General Membership meeting. The Board has a few ideas for the party we would also like to discuss (Santa Claus, gift exchange, etc). We would like to have your participation. Please make it a point to attend. If space allows, the menu options will be included in this newsletter.

A ride to Ruby Farm has been scheduled as well.

We have new hats in stock. Samples will be at the Membership Meeting.

Hope to see you at the Membership Meeting or Breakfast.

Comments and suggestions are always welcome!

August

July

July already!

We certainly got lucky on the 4th. It didn’t look like we were going to be able to get together at my house. Rain early in the day was bad. It was even sprinkling a little bit when people were arriving about 2:00.

But, all of a sudden, it quit, got sunny and turned into a great day.

I fired up my new grille for the first time and away we went. A lot of good food and a lot of good conversation. We even had a few new stories as well as some old (Mike Gleason was in attendance), talked a bit about ‘toy haulers’, Harleys, and just about everything else. I am sure a few people added some points to Wayne’s "agitator" list. Was it you?

I know it wasn’t me!

Thanks to Frank Harris for getting enough tables and chair for everyone. Thanks to Dave and Wayne for bringing their canopies for cover. Thanks to Wendi and Julie for bringing what they told me I needed to get (suffering from CRS - forgot what they told me!). Thanks to Jessica and Joe (my daughter and son-in-law) for helping me get my stuff together. And thanks to Will and Jay (my son and his buddy) for doing the grilling.

And a special thanks to all of you who were able to attend. Great food! Great company! Great time!

I might be crazy, but let’s do this again soon!

Club business? Well we decided we didn’t need a Board Meeting this month. So we don’t have anything new to report.

Dave has new pictures out there. Make sure you are signed up to get them!

See you at breakfast.

Also, I know sometimes it is a pain in the butt, but please try to attend the General Membership Meeting.
