| Butler discusses the radical view of feminists who believe
that drag
is a homosexual display rooted in misogyny.
She describes the problem with this idea since it not only incorrectly
assumes that all cross dressing and drag
behavior are male homosexual activities, but points to
misogyny as the root cause of this. Most of the focus then is
on explaining this phenomenon in terms of gay men who hate women.
This sort of mind set also attempts to "explain away" lesbianism
in terms of "failed heterosexuality."
The homosexual man is labeled a misogynist. The homosexual female is labeled as merely responding to a bad experience with men. |
