Human beings seek to know themselves by studying those "others" who share the world with them. In this way, humankind is drawn to his/her own moving image. This moving image is represented not just in the form of other people, but in all objects that we identify with ourselves. Other people are the mirror images of ourselves that we wish to know and understand. They validate our existence and reinforce our place in the world. Instead of looking inward for answers to our questions about life, we look to those "out there" to offer insight into who we are. We attempt in this process to control and dominate other moving things by restraining (containing) them. "Motion pictures" offer us this perceived ability to dominate. We are able to freeze time and move it slowly forward or backward at will.
