Poem of the Recent Sea

I see you there
lost again beneath
a huge star-filled night.

the sand catches
the moon glow
and sends it back.

the light, a distraction:
too bright for sleeping,
too dull for reading.

and you remain -- alone,
but never alone --
even out there on the edge.

the night comes
and it goes
like every other night.

but the roar of this night's ocean
lulls you into believing
that no one knows where you are.
