Hegel, Gilroy tells us, believed black culture
was not sophisticated enough to appreciate art. He believed that
they would use artistic
values to "... make their fetish."
On page 333, Gilroy says,
"Blacks perceive the divine objects they have created as sublime, but Europeans see them as 'hideous' just as they hear non-European music as 'the most detestable noise.'" |
