Montgomery, Alabama, named after Major Richard Montgomery of the Revolutionary War, is a city rich in history, and filled with fun attractions. It is the site of Jefferson Davis being inaugurated as the President of the Confederacy and where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave a speech at the end of the Selma-to-Montgomery march. Those interested in the Civil Rights Movement can visit Montgomery's Civil Rights Memorial, the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Church, where Dr. King was the pastor for six years and the Rosa Parks Library and Museum. Performing Arts are also an important part of this city because it hosts one of the most esteemed Shakespeare Festivals in the world. A train ride through the Montgomery Zoo shows off over 700 animals who reside at the zoo.
