WOW!'s Chairwoman and
CEO Appointed Chairwoman of the American Cable Association
Denver,
CO-July 27, 2011-WOW!, an award winning provider of Internet, Cable
and Phone services, announced today that their CEO and Chairwoman, Colleen
Abdoulah has been named Chairwoman of the American Cable Association (ACA).
The ACA leadership position has been held since 2008
by Wave Broadband Chief Operating Officer Steve Friedman, who will continue to
serve on ACA's Board of Directors.
Abdoulah was appointed by the ACA Board at its third
quarter meeting just prior to the 6th Independent Cable Show. Robert Gessner, President of Massillon Cable
TV was appointed to Abdoulah's position of Vice Chairman.
In her new leadership role, Abdoulah will act as
ACA's leading advocate for the small, independent cable community before
Congress, the FCC and the Obama Administration.
"Colleen is a very strong and talented executive and
I greatly value her judgment and willingness to devote so much executive time
to the cause of the independent cable community. I congratulate her on being appointed our new
Chairwoman and greatly anticipate getting started on the many challenges that
lie ahead of us," ACA President and CEO Matthew M. Polka said.
Abdoulah has been a strong supporter of ACA
activities for many years. In 2010,
Abdoulah testified on behalf of ACA before three Congressional Committees-the
House Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, and the Internet; the Senate
Judiciary Subcommittee on Antitrust, Competition Policy and Consumer Rights;
and the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee-to deliver
independent cable's concerns with the $30 billion Comcast-NBC Universal merger
pending before the FCC and the Department of Justice.
Additionally, Abdoulah was the 2010 recipient of the
ACA PAC Individual Leadership Award, which recognized her dedication and
support for the ACA PAC.
